TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Two Israeli soldiers fighting in Gaza have fled Amsterdam, Netherlands, and returned to Israel after a pro-Palestinian organization tracked them down on social media, Israeli public broadcaster KAN reported on Tuesday.
The soldiers were evacuated from Amsterdam while on vacation after an organization seeking arrest warrants for Israeli soldiers circulated their photos, KAN reported, as quoted by Anadolu Agency.
The Israeli Genocide Tracker, a pro-Palestinian organization, published the photos of the soldiers on X on Monday.
"After participating in the Gaza genocide, this Israeli tank commander from the 52nd Battalion, who was involved in the kidnapping of hundreds of civilians (especially in Jabalia) and who enjoyed taking selfies with the victims, landed in Amsterdam today for a vacation."
The post was specifically shared with the Belgian Hind Rajab Foundation, which is seeking arrest warrants for Israeli soldiers for war crimes in Gaza.
According to Israeli news site N12, this is the first time a pro-Palestinian organization has targeted regular conscripts.
The two soldiers had permission to travel to the Netherlands, according to Israel’s Channel 12.
The Israeli military ruled that the soldiers should cut short their vacation and return to Israel, and were told to delete all footage related to the war in Gaza from their social media.
The Israeli army is said to have warned its personnel against traveling abroad for fear of prosecution for alleged war crimes in Gaza.
Israeli media reported in January that a soldier accused of war crimes in Gaza had fled Brazil, where authorities are pressing for an investigation into his actions.
