TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) is urging the police to investigate the alleged planned murder attempt behind the attack on Andrie Yunus. The Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS) was splashed with acid by an unknown person on Thursday night, March 12, 2026.
Representative of TAUD, Fadhil Alfathan, stated that the attack on the victim was suspected to be aimed at killing him. "The attack on our colleague Andri Yunus is an attempt at planned murder," said Fadhil on Monday, March 16, 2026.
Fadhil explained that the perpetrators were fully aware that the acid they used could have fatal consequences for the victim. It would be a deadly attack, especially if the liquid was directed toward the victim's face.
The perpetrators are also believed to have carefully planned their actions before the attack on the victim. "We suspect there was a series of surveillance processes until the execution route was confirmed to be safe," said Fadhil in a press conference.
Therefore, Fadhil stated that the case could be categorized as an alleged planned murder attempt. This condition is regulated under Article 17 of the Criminal Code related to attempts to commit a criminal act, in this case, planned murder.
Andri Yunus was splashed with acid while on Salemba I-Talang Street, Central Jakarta, on Thursday night, March 12, 2026. Andrie was splashed with the dangerous solution by two unknown individuals. Both individuals were riding a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction of Andrie.
Coordinator of KontraS, Dimas Bagus Arya, stated that the perpetrators splashed acid on the front part of Andrie's body. After that, Andrie fell to the ground. "The victim immediately screamed in pain and fell off his motorcycle," said Dimas on Friday, March 13, 2026.
The corrosive chemical affected Andrie's right side, including his eyes, face, chest, and hands. Some of the victim's clothes melted due to the acid. A medical examination revealed that Andrie had sustained serious burns on 24 percent of his body.
