Apple Revamps App Store Pricing and Revenue Policies

2 hours ago 11

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Apple has just announced changes in prices and revenue for developers in the App Store that will apply in several countries. Tax adjustments will commence in Brazil on May 16, 2025, while price updates will be phased across other regions in the coming months.

In Brazil, Apple changes developer revenue is required to comply with the implementation of a new tax called CIDE (Contribuições de Intervenção no Domínio Econômico). This 10 percent tax applies to developers outside Brazil and will be deducted from their earnings from paid apps and in-app purchases (IAP).

Furthermore, Apple states that starting on June 2, if developers do not choose Brazil as the base storefront in App Store Connect, prices will automatically adjust in the country to reflect this new tax.

Similar changes will be implemented in Kazakhstan, resulting in domestic economic conditions. However, these price changes will not affect developers who set Brazil or Kazakhstan as their base storefront.

"Apple notes that these updates won’t affect auto-renewable subscriptions, nor will any regions where developers manually manage prices instead of using Apple’s automated pricing system," Apple quoted in a 9to5Mac report.

In Europe, Apple will introduce new rules regarding automatic subscription price increases in three countries: Austria, Germany, and Poland. Starting on August 4, customers in these countries must give explicit consent in case of a price increase. Otherwise, the subscription will automatically be stopped at the end of the current billing cycle.

Apple will also send weekly notifications until users respond or their subscription ends. However, any scheduled subscription price increases before August 4 will still follow the current notification policy, even if the subscription is extended after that date.
