Bali Governor: No Foreigners-Only Clubs Remain After Immigration Crackdown

1 hour ago 20

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Bali Governor Wayan Koster stated that there are no longer any foreigners-only clubs on the island following recent action against the "Entourage Run" club in Canggu, Badung District, which is suspected of barring Indonesians from participating.

"Regarding this exclusive foreigners-only club, there was an exclusive residential community that has since ceased to exist. I believe this is the same case," the governor said on Tuesday, referring to the so-called "Russian village" in Bali.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting of Bali's Regional Leadership Coordination Forum, Koster also dismissed reports that the "Silent Disco" event organized by the "Entourage Run" club discriminated against Indonesians.

"There were Indonesians at the event, so reports claiming otherwise are incorrect," he said.

Despite several recent incidents involving foreign nationals in Bali, Koster said the local leadership agreed that the island remains one of the world's leading tourist destinations.

"The situation in Bali is good, conducive, and safe," he said, urging the public to look at the actual conditions on the island rather than relying on social media to form their opinions.

Since the local leadership concluded that there are no exclusive foreigners-only clubs in Bali, the provincial government will continue its efforts to maintain a conducive tourism environment and ensure that visitors comply with local regulations.

Koster also encouraged other running communities in Bali not to be discouraged by the case and to continue their activities as long as they do not disturb local residents.

"It is fine as long as the morning run activities do not disturb others," he remarked.

Last week, Indonesia's Directorate General of Immigration took action against two Dutch nationals who organized the foreigners-only running club "Entourage Run" in Bali, citing discriminatory practices against Indonesian citizens.

"There should not be a state within a state. We consider this running club to be functioning as a 'state within a state,'" Immigration Director General Hendarsam Marantoko said during a press conference in Jakarta.

He added that the two Dutch nationals had violated immigration regulations by organizing an event in Indonesia without the required permits.
