TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration in Bali deported 342 foreign nationals throughout January to June 2026 after they were found guilty of violating immigration regulations.
Head of the Bali Immigration Regional Office, Felucia Sengky Ratna, said the enforcement was carried out by all immigration units, including the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Denpasar Immigration Office, Singaraja Immigration Office, Denpasar Immigration Detention House, as well as the Tabanan and Klungkung Immigration Offices. Officers conducted surveillance through field operations and monitoring at locations considered vulnerable to foreign nationals' activities.
"Based on data from the first semester of 2026, most of the violations found involved the misuse of residence permits and overstaying the validity period of residence permits," Felucia said in a written statement on Saturday, July 4, 2026.
Felucia said the surveillance also targeted activities affecting public order, violations of customary norms, and the involvement of foreign nationals in illegal economic activities.
According to her, Indonesia, particularly Bali, remains open to tourists and investors. However, every foreign national is required to comply with Indonesian laws. "Deportation and re-entry ban sanctions are imposed on foreign nationals who violate the rules. This is part of law enforcement to maintain public order," she said.
Felucia added that the enforcement efforts were supported by enhanced surveillance through independent operations and coordination within the Foreigner Monitoring Team (Timpora). She said inter-agency cooperation had proven effective in uncovering several major cases throughout 2026.
One such case occurred in March 2026, when Immigration uncovered a clandestine narcotics laboratory involving two Russian nationals. The operation was carried out in cooperation with the National Narcotics Agency and Customs.
During the same month, officers also arrested British Interpol fugitive Steven Lyons, who was listed on an Interpol Red Notice. He was apprehended at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali.
In June 2026, Immigration also foiled the escape attempt of Australian Interpol fugitive Angelo Padelli, who is wanted in connection with criminal cases in his home country. The arrest was conducted jointly with the Directorate of Narcotics Crime of the Indonesian National Police Criminal Investigation Agency and the Australian Federal Police (AFP).
Felucia encouraged the public to participate in monitoring the presence of foreign nationals. She said people could use the official complaint channels available at every Immigration Office.
"Do not hesitate to report immediately if you discover suspicious activities involving foreign nationals that may violate the law or involve criminal offenses," she said.
