TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) confirmed that eight people died in the landslides that hit two areas in Bali. All the bodies of the victims were successfully evacuated by the joint SAR team.
Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari said that of the number of victims who died, four were victims of the landslide in Pikat Village, Klungkung Regency; and four others in Ubung Kaja Village, Denpasar City.
BNPB said that based on reports from the joint SAR team, the bodies of the landslide victims in Pikat Village, Dawan District, were each found on Sunday, January 19, or shortly after the disaster occurred, and two others were found the next day on Monday, January 20, 2025.
This, he said, was because in the search and rescue process, the joint SAR team had faced weather challenges, so the operation had to be temporarily stopped for the safety of the officers consisting of Basarnas personnel, TNI, Polri, and the local district Indonesian Red Cross (PMI).
Meanwhile, the four bodies of the victims who died in Ubung Kaja Village, Denpasar City were found several hours after the search operation took place after the landslide occurred on Monday morning, January 20, 2025.
From these two incidents, the SAR team also helped evacuate seven survivors to undergo medical treatment for the injuries they suffered. "From the two disaster locations, there are still two victims who have been reported missing and are in the search process," said Muhari in a statement in Jakarta, Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
BNPB appealed to the public to be aware of light to heavy rain accompanied by lightning which still has the potential to hit most areas of Bali Province. These weather conditions can trigger landslides or other hydrometeorological disasters such as flash floods.
