CANTIKA.COM, Jakarta - This year, Indonesia reaffirmed its presence on the international cinema stage through active participation in the world’s largest film event, the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
Indonesian works and delegations will attend the Marché du Film, the world’s biggest film market that runs alongside the festival.
Their participation aims to expand international networks and open opportunities for strategic collaborations that can drive the growth of Indonesia’s film industry.
Among the featured works is Ikatan Darah, produced by Iko Uwais under his production house, Uwais Pictures. The film highlights silat and local narratives and will be presented at Marché du Film Cannes Festival 2025.
Also featured is Jumbo, the third highest-grossing Indonesian film of all time, which has drawn more than eight million viewers. The animated film will be showcased to potential partners who can help distribute it to wider international audiences.
In addition to Ikatan Darah and Jumbo, Reza Rahadian’s directorial debut Pangku will also be presented to potential collaborators. Other works featured include Monster Pabrik Rambut, the latest title from Palari Films, as well as Sleep No More and The Mourning Journey, both produced by Christine Hakim.
Producer and director Razka Robby Ertanto has been selected to take part in the Producers Network at Marché du Film. In this program, Razka will introduce his latest film project, which tells the story of Rose Pandanwangi, a legendary Indonesian opera singer and wife of the painter S. Sudjojono.
Razka’s previous works include Midnight in Bali (2025), Yohanna (2024), and Ave Maryam (2018).
Meanwhile, producer Yulia Evina Bhara has been appointed as a jury member for the Critics Week at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. She will serve alongside Jihane Bougrine, Josee Deshaies, Daniel Kaluuya, and the jury’s president, Rodrigo Sorogoyen.
Government Support
During a media briefing on the Cannes International Film Festival held at CGV FX Sudirman, Senayan, Minister of Culture Fadli Zon conveyed the government’s support and appreciation for all parties involved.
"I would like to show appreciation to all parties, especially those in the film industry - directors, producers, actors, writers, animators, technicians, and other creative workers who have wholeheartedly built cultural bridges between Indonesia and the world through cinema," said Fadli Zon on Tuesday, May 6.
"We hope that this presence is not just an ordinary one. We hope that it will strengthen inspiration, spirit, and support for the film industry, both internationally and nationally."
Domestically, according to Fadli, the response to Indonesian films has been overwhelmingly positive, with 81 million local viewers recorded last year. This figure surpassed that of foreign films, which attracted around 40 million viewers.
"With its presence at Cannes, we hope to strengthen collaboration and attract many other international partners," he added.
