TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Adies Kadir has asserted that the proposed revision of the Indonesian Military (TNI Law) will not include articles that potentially expand TNI's role in civilian affairs. He clarified that the current revision primarily addresses the extension of the retirement age.
"No, it won't be about the military's dual function. Let's see the bill later," said Adies after leading the DPR Plenary Session at the Parliamentary Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.
The Golkar Party politician confirmed that the TNI Law revision has been included in the 2025 priority national legislative program (Prolegnas) following a letter from the President on February 13, 2025.
Previously, the proposal had been submitted during President Jokowi's administration. However, he explained that numerous changes in ministerial positions required resubmission under President Prabowo Subianto. Therefore, the DPR decided to upgrade the TNI Law revision to a priority.
After the approval during the Plenary Session, the DPR delegated the discussion to Commission I. Adies mentioned that Commission I will determine the commencement date for the TNI Law discussions.
