TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Presidential Palace has confirmed that Perry Warjiyo resigned from his position as Governor of Bank Indonesia due to personal reasons. Minister of State Secretariat Prasetyo Hadi denied rumors that Perry's resignation was prompted by health issues or pressure from palace circles.
According to Prasetyo, President Prabowo Subianto received Perry's resignation letter on Sunday, July 26, 2026. In the letter, Perry cited solely personal reasons for stepping down.
"He submitted his resignation letter for personal reasons, and we respect it," Prasetyo said at the Bank Indonesia headquarters on Monday morning, July 27, 2026, as quoted from a video statement released by the Presidential Secretariat's Media and Information Bureau.
Palace Denies Pressure Rumors
The Gerindra Party politician claimed that he did not know the details behind Perry's decision to step down. Nevertheless, Prasetyo stressed that Perry made no mention of health issues as the reason for his resignation in the letter delivered to Prabowo.
"There was nothing like that, none. His letter only stated that he was stepping down for personal reasons," Prasetyo said.
On the same occasion, Prasetyo also dismissed speculation that Perry Warjiyo resigned under pressure from the Palace. "Who is speculating? Your question itself is creating speculation," he said.
Who Will Succeed Perry Warjiyo?
President Prabowo has yet to name a successor to replace Perry Warjiyo as Governor of Bank Indonesia. "It only happened yesterday. So the President has not yet within one day decided on a definitive candidate," Prasetyo said.
Following Perry Warjiyo's departure, the role of BI Governor will be temporarily assumed by Bank Indonesia Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti. Prasetyo noted that this aligns with the mechanism established under Law No. 23 of 1999 on Bank Indonesia, as amended most recently by Law No. 4 of 2026 on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector.
"The BI Law stipulates that the vacancy can automatically be filled by an acting governor," Prasetyo said.
Meanwhile, Bank Indonesia Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti confirmed that Perry Warjiyo's departure from the top post at the central bank was voluntary. "Regarding the voluntary resignation of Perry Warjiyo from the position of BI Governor due to personal reasons on July 25, 2026," Destry said during a press conference at the Bank Indonesia office in Central Jakarta on Monday, July 27, 2026.
