TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia will see an expansion of electric transportation modes, President Prabowo Subianto said in Semarang, adding that the efforts align with the government's green and renewable energy undertakings.
"We will develop green energy. Renewable energy. Beyond railways, nearly all of our vehicles will be electric; our trucks, buses, cars, and motorcycles," Prabowo said while inaugurating the first phase of renovations to the cultural heritage building of Semarang Tawang Station in Semarang, Central Java, on Thursday.
Prabowo said the the development of electric-based transportation is part of the national energy development direction, which prioritizes green and renewable energy.
During the occasion, Prabowo also emphasized that trains are a vital part of supporting the tourism sector.
He believes that the revitalization of hundreds of railway stations by PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) can attract tourists and become a part of the national transformation.
Prabowo stated that preserving historic railway stations can attract local and international tourists interested in historical and cultural tourism.
"Preserving all stations is also part of preserving history. But more importantly, this is part of our efforts as a nation to make sweeping transformations," Prabowo said.
The President also requested that improvements to facilities in station areas be carried out with attention to cleanliness, tidiness, and environmental aesthetics.
"We are changing the image. Indonesia must be sustainable, beautiful, and scenic. There must be no litter lying around, no neglected buildings," he said.
The President believes that improving transportation infrastructure and preserving historic buildings can strengthen the appeal of tourism in various regions. Prabowo said the revitalization effort is expected to support national transformation through the development of better and more well-maintained public facilities.
