Indonesian and Singapore Forces Hold Joint Commando Training

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The Singaporean and Indonesian armies completed the 32nd joint exercise, Exercise Chandrapura (XCP), in Singapore from July 1-6, 2026, ANTARA reported.

In a release, the Singapore Ministry of Defense stated on Tuesday that the exercise involved the First Commando Battalion of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Special Forces Command (Kopassus).

During the exercise, both forces exchanged professional knowledge regarding command tactics, operational techniques, and mission planning procedures. Training also includes close-quarters combat, fast-roping techniques, rappelling, and static parachuting.

The series of exercises concluded with a Field Training Exercise (FTX) in SAFTI City. During this exercise, personnel from both countries carried out a joint attack simulation against enemy targets. At the end of the exercise, as a symbol of mutual respect and friendship, personnel from both armies also exchanged paratrooper badges.

The closing ceremony of the exercise was led jointly by the Chief of the General Staff of the Singapore Army Brigadier General Wong Shi Ming and the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army Lieutenant General Muhammad Saleh Mustafa.

In his remarks, Wong said the exercise reflected the strong and growing relationship between the two countries' commandos.

"This exercise reflects the strong and growing relationship between our two elite forces, built through years of close interaction and shared experiences. Today, the participants stand before us as a testament to this enduring friendship," he said.

"The true strength of this partnership lies in the friendships and trust built between our soldiers. I hope the bonds forged over these few days will endure long after this exercise and continue to strengthen the relationship between our forces for many years to come," Wong added.

Exercise Chandrapura was first held in 1994 and is one manifestation of the long-standing defense relationship between Indonesia and Singapore.

In addition to joint exercises, the two armies also regularly collaborate through visits by high-ranking military officials, professional exchanges, and participation in various military training programs in each country.
