TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iran said Tuesday that US- and Israeli-linked commercial vessels seized during the war in the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf will be sold, with the proceeds distributed to families affected by the conflict, according to an Anadolu report.
Hassan Abdollianpour, head of the judiciary’s Center for Lawyers, said a number of US and Israeli vessels had been seized in the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf “under judicial rulings,” according to the Mizan News Agency.
“The proceeds from the sale of these vessels will be used for individuals and families affected by the recent war,” Abdollianpour said, as cited by Anadolu.
He added that experts had begun assessing damage caused by US attacks in southern Iran’s Hormozgan Province and surrounding areas.
The assessment covers damage caused by the attacks in Hormozgan and nearby areas, as Iranian authorities begin evaluating the impact of the conflict, Abdollianpour said.
The US and Israel launched a war against Iran on February 28, which Tehran says killed thousands of people. Tehran responded with missile and drone attacks across the region and effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic route for energy supplies.
