TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) announced that, as per the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz will be exempt from fees for 60 days.
In a statement released Thursday, June 18, the SNSC announced that applicants for permits to pass through Iranian waters would not be charged for 60 days, and all costs would be covered by the Iranian government, as quoted by ANTARA.
The SNSC also stated that the Persian Gulf Waterways Authority (PGSA) has been directed to expeditiously process and prioritize applications to support the implementation of the Islamabad MoU.
According to SNSC, special conditions and several safety risks on the shipping lane require ships to pass through a specified route and at a specified time.
This step is necessary to ensure shipping safety, prevent maritime accidents, and allow ship traffic volumes to increase gradually.
The PGSA will announce the operational arrangements and technical details of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
The SNSC added that, as per the fifth paragraph of the Islamabad MoU, other steps, including mine clearance, would be taken.
