Jack Draper has turned to Andy Murray’s former coach Jamie Delgado as he continues his quest to follow the Scot into the Grand Slam winners’ circle.

James Trotman has been Draper’s head coach for the last four years but will take a step back as Delgado - who worked most recently with Grigor Dimitrov - comes into the team.

The British No1 is out for the rest of the season with bone bruising but - as first reported by The Times - he will start working with Delgado on the practice court shortly as he begins to build towards January’s Australian Open.

Murray has always been a touchstone for Draper’s career and this appointment completes the process of bringing the band back together: with physio Shane Annun and fitness trainer Matt Little already in place, the addition of Delgado means Draper now employs the three key figures in the late-career Murray camp. Delgado, 48, coached the Scot from 2016 to 2021.

A former world No121, Delgado then oversaw an Indian Summer for Dimitrov, helping the Bulgarian to return to the world’s top 10 last year for the first time since 2018. They stopped working together last month.

Daily Mail Sport understands Trotman will remain a key figure in the Draper camp and will still travel with him occasionally, though Delgado will do the bulk of the weeks on tour.

Part of the impetus for this move comes from Trotman’s desire to spend less time on the road and more with his family.

And so, like many top players, Draper will now have two elite coaches sharing the non-stop workload of the tennis calendar.

It is further evidence of his determination to maximise his potential - now he has to get fit and stay fit, having been hobbled for much of this season by hip or arm issues.

The world No8 will return to semi-competitive action in the exhibition Ultimate Tennis Showdown in London’s Copper Box Arena from December 5-7.
