TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Provincial Government will provide free services for all public transportation managed by the local government for two days during this year's Eid al-Fitr. The policy will be in effect on the day of Eid and the following day to facilitate the mobility of residents and enliven the atmosphere of the Eid al-Fitr celebration in the capital city.
"To welcome Eid al-Fitr, all transportation services managed by the Jakarta Provincial Government will be free for two days. Whether it's the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit), LRT (Light Rail Transit), TransJakarta, TransJabodetabek, JakLingko, or Mikrotrans, everything is free," said Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung, in an official statement quoted on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
Although it's free, passengers are still required to tap their electronic money cards or e-money with a fare of Rp1 as a mechanism for recording their journey in the public transportation system.
In addition to transportation, the Jakarta Provincial Government has provided free access to several tourist destinations for Kartu Jakarta Pintar (KJP) or the 'Jakarta Smart Card' holders. According to Pramono, this policy is intended to allow families with KJP recipient children to enjoy recreational activities during the Eid holiday. "Even for mothers whose children hold KJP, entry to Ancol, Ragunan, and Monas is free," he said.
The Provincial Government also introduced the concept of "Mudik to Jakarta" during this year's Eid. The program is aimed at people who do not return to their hometowns, so they can still experience the Eid atmosphere in the capital city.
As part of this program, the local government has collaborated with shopping centers and the hospitality sector to hold a festival with discounts of up to 70 percent. According to Pramono, the local government has also granted partial tax exemptions for these sectors to boost economic activities during the Eid holiday period.
"The Jakarta Provincial Government has partially exempted taxes for shopping centers and the hospitality sector. Soon, we will hold a 70 percent discount festival," he said.
The Jakarta Provincial Government will also organize Car Free Night on the night of takbiran and provide space for the public to hold torchlight processions as part of the tradition to welcome Eid al-Fitr. This policy is aimed at making the Eid celebration in the capital city even more lively and memorable for the celebrating public.
