TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning Minister and National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) Head, Nusron Wahid, stated that legal certainty over land ownership is a key prerequisite for strengthening Indonesia's food security.
“For us, food security cannot be separated from legal certainty over land rights,” Nusron said in a statement received in Jakarta on Saturday.
He said the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency supports food security not only by ensuring legal certainty over land ownership, but also through sustainable spatial planning and the protection of agricultural land.
According to Nusron, the ministry is committed to ensuring that every hectare of productive land is utilized optimally as a foundation for achieving national food self-sufficiency and food sovereignty.
“We are committed to ensuring that every inch of productive land is utilized to its fullest potential,” he said while accompanying President Prabowo Subianto during the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) nationwide harvest event at Abdulrachman Saleh Air Force Base in Malang, East Java, on Friday.
He added that the simultaneous harvest, held at 43 locations across Indonesia, demonstrated the importance of cross-sector collaboration in strengthening national food security.
“This is a tangible example of government synergy to increase agricultural production, strengthen downstream industries, and improve the welfare of farmers,” Nusron said.
The harvest in Malang featured a range of agricultural commodities, including sugarcane, rice, and soybeans. Several members of President Prabowo's Red and White Cabinet also attended the event.
