TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Microsoft has officially raised the prices of Xbox Series S and X consoles, controllers, and several of its newest exclusive games globally. The price increase became effective on Thursday, May 1, 2025, covering the markets in the United States, Europe, the UK, Australia, and several other countries.
The Xbox Series X has increased in price by US$100 from US$499.99 to US$599.99. Meanwhile, the 512GB model of the Xbox Series S has risen from US$299.99 to US$379.99, and the 1TB version is now priced at US$429.99.
As for the digital version of the Xbox Series X, it has become priced at $549.99. The special edition Xbox Series X 2TB in galaxy black also experienced a price hike, now set at US$729.99.
Next to consoles, accessories such as controllers and wireless Xbox headsets have experienced price adjustments. The standard controller is now priced at US$64.99, while the wireless headset is sold for US$119.99. Both of these products have started to be sold at the new prices in the market.
Microsoft also confirmed that several exclusive Xbox games will increase from US$69.99 to US$79.99 during this year's holiday season. This policy aligns the prices with the launch prices of flagship Nintendo Switch 2 games. However, the subscription price for Xbox Game Pass is confirmed to remain unchanged.
In Europe, the Xbox Series S 512GB is now sold at 349.99 euros and the Xbox Series X 1TB at 599.99 euros. Meanwhile, in the UK, each model is priced at 299.99 pounds and 499.99 pounds. This price increase follows the footsteps of Sony, which recently raised the prices of PS5 consoles in the same regions earlier this month.
This policy was announced a day after Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella presented the company's quarterly financial report. In his statement, he mentioned that Microsoft had achieved significant milestones in digital content distribution.
"Microsoft ended the quarter as the top publisher by preorders and preinstalls on both Xbox and PlayStation Store," said Nadella, as quoted from The Verge, on Friday, May 2, 2025.
He also added that revenue from the PC Game Pass service had grown by 45 percent compared to the previous year.
Previously, Microsoft had raised the price of the Xbox Series X in June 2023, which was also followed by an increase in the Xbox Game Pass subscription fee and the launch of a new tier in its subscription package.
