Newcastle duo Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton have been delayed in joining their teammates for international duty after their flight was forced to turn around due to a broken window, according to reports in Brazil.

The South American pair are both a part of Carlo Ancelotti's squad to face South Korea and Japan and were due to take part in a training session on Tuesday afternoon in Seoul.

Guimaraes and Joelinton were on board a flight from Amsterdam to Seoul when the malfunction occurred, forcing the plane to turn around.

Reports in Brazil state that the pair spent 12 hours in the air before they touched back down in Amsterdam. This is approximately the same duration as a non-stop flight between the two destinations.

The pair are now expected to be placed on separate flights as they aim to join the squad in time for Friday’s match against South Korea.

Both are anticipated to arrive on Wednesday via alternative routes, though it remains uncertain whether either will make it in time for the open training session at Goyang Stadium, which is set to draw thousands of enthusiastic fans.

They will then embark on a 780-mile journey to Tokyo immediately after their fixture, followed by a 5,788-mile return trip to the North East. Upon arrival, they'll have less than 48 hours to prepare for their next match - a Premier League clash against Brighton on the south coast on October 18 - which includes another 351-mile trip.

Ahead of the international break, Guimaraes said: 'The international break has not come at a very good time for us, because we just want to keep going.

'But now we have to go to the international, play well and come back fit because we have a very important game when we come back.

'I'm going to South Korea, it's crazy. But yeah, we have to go there. Playing for my country is always a reason to be proud though for me. But it's a little bit far away.

'The most important thing now is to get the jet lag right. Go there, train well. It's important for us as well to be there with our national team and most important is to stay fit.'

Newcastle are 11th in the Premier League after beating Nottingham Forest 2-0 - thanks to goals from Guimaraes and new signing Nick Woltemade - on Sunday.
