TEMPO.CO, Jakarta National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo revealed that a total of 1,213,388 vehicles have already departed the Jakarta area during the 2026 Eid homecoming period. Today, Wednesday, March 18, 2026, through tomorrow is predicted to be the peak of the exodus.

"The estimated number of vehicles leaving Jakarta at the moment is 1,213,388," he stated at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police field in South Jakarta on Wednesday.

Sigit previously predicted that the peak of the Eid homecoming flow this year would occur in two waves. According to him, this forecast was based on a survey conducted by the National Police Traffic Corps in collaboration with the Ministry of Transportation. The first wave of the homecoming flow was expected to occur on March 14-15, 2026.

He noted that the second peak of the homecoming flow would fall on March 18 and 19, 2026. Sigit also cautioned the need for specialized regulation of crossings between East Java and Bali, as Eid al-Fitr will coincide with the Nyepi Day celebrations.

The same pattern applies to the predicted peak of the return flow, which is also expected to occur in two stages. The first wave is anticipated on March 24 and 25, 2026, while the second is set for March 28 and 29, 2026. The National Police Chief stated that personnel would conduct an extended operation with enhanced routine activities (KRYD) to manage the second peak of the return flow.

The police have also prepared several traffic engineering measures to handle the 2026 Eid homecoming and return flows. Some of the planned interventions include one-way systems, contraflow lanes, rest area management, and restrictions on three-axle vehicles.
