TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Police have begun identifying the victims of the collision between Argo Bromo Anggrek intercity train, traveling from Gambir to Surabaya Pasar Turi, and a Commuter Line train on the Kampung Bandan-Cikarang route. A medical team is currently examining the bodies of the victims at Bhayangkara Kramat Jati Hospital.

The head of Bhayangkara Kramat Jati Hospital, Brigadier General Prima Heru Yulihartono, stated that the facility had received ten body bags as of Tuesday, April 28, 2026. "All of them are women," Heru confirmed.

Thus far, the police have received only seven reports from families of the passengers. Authorities are now urging families of passengers who remain missing to report to the police immediately.

State-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has recorded 14 fatalities in the incident. KAI President Director Bobby stated that all deceased victims have been transported to the Polri Kramat Jati Hospital for further identification.

"The deceased victims have been taken to the Polri Kramat Jati Hospital to undergo the identification process," Bobby said.

In addition to the fatalities, 84 people sustained injuries. Officers evacuated the victims to several hospitals for urgent medical treatment. The injured are currently being treated at RSUD Bekasi, RS Bella Bekasi, RS Primaya, RS Mitra Plumbon Cibitung, RS Bakti Kartini, RS Siloam Bekasi Timur, RS Hermina, and RS Mitra Keluarga.

Impact Focused on Commuter Line

All of the deceased and injured victims were passengers of the Commuter Line service. Meanwhile, all 240 passengers aboard the Argo Bromo Anggrek intercity train were successfully evacuated and are reported to be in good condition.

Authorities at the scene have also secured the belongings of the victims. Bobby stated that the data collection and management of these items are being carried out in coordination with the police to assist in the identification efforts.

"The data collection and management of these belongings will be conducted in coordination with the police to support the identification process," Bobby added.

The incident began when the Commuter Line train came to a halt on Track 1 of Bekasi Timur Station. The train had stopped due to a disruption on the track ahead, following a separate collision between a train traveling from the opposite direction and a taxi.

Shortly thereafter, KA Argo Bromo Anggrek approached from behind and struck the stationary train directly. The force of the impact split the women-only carriages of the Commuter Line train.
