TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated hundreds of bridges in various regions of Indonesia. These bridges are located in disaster-prone and remote regions.
In total, Prabowo inaugurated 218 bridges of Bailey, Armco, and Pioneer types. "With Bismillah, this evening, on Monday, March 9, 2026, I, Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia, hereby inaugurate 77 Bailey bridges, 59 Armco bridges, and 82 pioneer bridges," said Prabowo during the virtual inauguration event broadcast by the Presidential Secretariat.
Prabowo says that the inauguration of hundreds of bridges is a source of pride. Prabowo stated that this achievement is the result of hard work by the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) soldiers and field officers, both in disaster-affected areas and remote areas that require bridges to support community activities.
Prabowo expressed his gratitude to the TNI ranks. He appreciates the work from the commanders, chiefs of staff, to the regional commanders and babinsa (village supervisory non-commissioned officers).
Prabowo mentioned that he can now breathe a sigh of relief as various remote areas now have bridges. "Our children in remote areas no longer need to sit in wet clothes in class or come home from school with wet clothes," he said.
According to Prabowo, the bridges built in remote areas may not be large. However, he stated that these bridges still serve a strategic function. Prabowo claimed that the infrastructure development is proof of the government's favoritism toward the people.
President Prabowo inaugurated 218 bridges that were built in just 2.5 months. These bridges were erected in various disaster-affected and remote areas in Indonesia, including Sumatra, which was hit by floods and landslides at the end of last year.
Prabowo deemed the bridge construction as a manifestation of the state's presence even in the smallest regions, especially for communities that have faced restricted access due to disasters or geographical conditions. "The inauguration of 218 bridges executed within 2.5 months is an extraordinary achievement," said the former defense minister.
