TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto said the police and military are allowed to inspect free nutritious meal (MBG) kitchens. He mentioned that regional units of the Indonesian National Police and the Indonesian National Armed Forces, such as Military District Commands (Kodim) or Police Resorts (Polres), can inspect the Nutritious Meal Fulfillment Service units (SPPGs) in their respective areas.
Prabowo said he doesn't wish to see Indonesian children go hungry; thus, the MBG program will continue.
However, Prabowo mentioned that he did not want corrupt individuals involved. "We will continue the MBG, but we understand and are aware that there are also those who are taking advantage of the program to steal from it," he said while inaugurating a dam in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, on Friday.
Therefore, Prabowo has granted permission for officials at all levels to inspect the MBG kitchens. "I ask the governors, regents, district heads, village heads, to inspect all MBG kitchens," he said.
Prabowo said reports of any problem can be directed to the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). If not, Prabowo said, the reports can also be uploaded to social media platforms such as TikTok for him to see.
Prabowo specifically mentioned that the police and military are also allowed to inspect the MBG kitchens. "District military commanders, police chiefs, precinct chiefs, please inspect," he said.
However, Prabowo stated that they must inspect thoroughly. "Don't just show off or try to take advantage. No! I have been an Indonesian for a long time. If anyone tries to take advantage, the people will watch. The people are not ignorant anymore," he said.
Prabowo then highlighted the methods used by some MBG kitchens to embezzle funds, one of which was to reduce the portion sizes.
For example, he said, dividing a whole chicken into eight parts when people in other countries, like the US just quartered the poultry.
In West Lombok today, Prabowo inaugurated the Meninting Dam in West Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara. Through this activity, he also inaugurated five dams in three other provinces simultaneously.
The five dams inaugurated by Prabowo are the Meninting Dam in West Nusa Tenggara, the Keureuto Dam and Rukoh Dam in Aceh, the Jlantah Dam in Central Java Province, and the Sidan Dam in Bali. These projects were built between 2015 and 2025.
