The sire of 2025 Melbourne Cup winner Half Yours has died in a freak paddock incident.
Breeding stallion St Jean passing comes less than a month after Half Yours won the Melbourne Cup.
The winner of Australia's most famous race was sired by St Jean, who has been stood at Grant and Joanne Dwyer's property in Victoria.
Dwyer has now put out a statement revealing the cause of St Jean's death.
'It is with great sadness that I wish to announce the passing of our beloved Stallion St. Jean', he said in the statement.
'On the morning of 25th of November it was discovered... St Jean had run into a fence post overnight... shattering his near-side front leg around the elbow region.'

The horse's injuries were so severe that he had to be euthanaised.
St Jean hadn't been in significant demand as a stallion.
But the success of Half Yours meant there was a rise in requests for his services.
Half Yours became Melbourne Cup favourite after winning the Caulfield Cup.
The leading stallion then claimed victory in Australia's most famous race not long after.
This year was St Jean's ninth season at Brackley Park in Victoria, with his death surprising many.
'His death was very untimely as breeders were only starting to recognise what an incredible pedigree this stallion had,' Dwyer said.
St Jean served five mares last season.
