TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC) has released its latest survey on political electability. The findings show that President Prabowo Subianto no longer holds the top spot in public support.
Prabowo was overtaken by West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi in the survey conducted between July 5 and 19, 2026. "This is interesting because Prabowo, as an incumbent who recently won the presidential election, has seen such a sharp drop in electability," said the executive director of SMRC on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
Prabowo placed second with 14.5 percent of respondent support, while Dedi Mulyadi took the lead with 35 percent. This marks the first time Dedi has outpaced his Gerindra Party chief in polls conducted during Prabowo's presidency.
SMRC presented respondents with a list of 20 potential presidential contenders, including Prabowo and Dedi. Respondents were also permitted to name figures outside the provided list.

At least 11 figures recorded electability figures above 1 percent.

Deni noted that the survey sampling population encompassed all eligible Indonesian voters nationwide. A total of 749 respondents were selected through a random sampling process. Respondents with mobile access were interviewed by phone (83.8 percent), whereas those without were surveyed in person (16.2 percent).
This distribution reflects the national balance between mobile phone users and non-users. The survey carries a margin of error of roughly 3.7 percent at a 95 percent confidence level.
Before Prabowo's victory in the 2024 election, SMRC regularly published political electability polls. An SMRC survey conducted two weeks prior to the February 14, 2024 vote showed the Prabowo-Gibran ticket leading with 57.3 percent electability. That forecast diverged by a mere 1.3 percent from the official General Elections Commission tally, which logged 58.6 percent for Prabowo-Gibran.
