TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Indonesia's South Kalimantan Regional Police Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team has urged the families of victims from the KM Virgo Transport 8 ship accident—who have not yet provided information—to promptly submit data regarding their missing relatives to facilitate a smooth identification process.

Dr. Supriadi, a member of the South Kalimantan Police DVI team, stated on Saturday night at Trisakti Port, Banjarmasin, that the team has so far received over 100 sets of antemortem data from families—collected both at Trisakti Port and via antemortem posts at various hospitals.

"Families who have not yet provided information regarding missing relatives or victims—including in cases where new victims are found—can immediately submit their data at our Antemortem Posts located at Trisakti Port and Bhayangkara Hospital Banjarmasin," said Supriadi.

On Saturday (Sept. 19), the South Kalimantan Police DVI team successfully identified three deceased victims. Following the earlier identification of six others, this means all deceased victims recovered by the joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team have now been identified.

As of Saturday night at 9:00 PM Central Indonesian Time (WITA)—marking the seventh day of the SAR operation—Basarnas (the National Search and Rescue Agency) confirmed that 117 victims had been located: 108 survivors and nine deceased individuals. Meanwhile, 126 people remain missing out of the total 243 individuals listed on the KM Virgo Transport 8 manifest.

The KM Virgo Transport 8 was carrying 243 people when it departed from Surabaya, East Java, bound for Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, on September 12, 2026.

The vessel reportedly encountered severe weather and lost contact on September 13, 2026, around 2:00 AM WITA; it was eventually discovered later that same day, capsized in the waters of Masalembo in the Java Sea.
