The Director General of Immigration, Hendarsam Marantoko, attended the ASEAN Directors-General of Immigration Departments and Heads of Consular Affairs Divisions (DGICM) forum held on June 22–26, 2026, in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Since 1996, this routine agenda has brought together immigration chiefs and consular heads from across the ASEAN bloc.
Hendarsam stated that the meeting will deliberate on pressing regional challenges, including human trafficking, online scammers, border reinforcement, and the exchange of information and technology. "There are many issues we will bring, such as money laundering crimes (TPPU) and migrant smuggling crimes (TPPM)," he said at his office in South Jakarta on Monday, June 22, 2026.

2. ASEAN Seeks Stronger Regional Resilience Amid Middle East Conflict
Senior diplomat Hassan Wirajuda stated that the conflict dynamics in the Middle East between Iran and the United States could be an opportunity for ASEAN to improve regional energy and food security.
"We have the potential to, for example, realize food or energy security; in the broad sense, including electricity, so that we can be self-reliant and resilient," Hassan said during the commemoration of the five-year comprehensive strategic partnership between ASEAN and China, the Jakarta Forum 2026, in Jakarta, on Monday, June 22, 2026, as quoted by ANTARA.

3. Indonesia's Whoosh Debt Restructuring Talks Remain on Track, Says China
Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Wang Lutong said discussions on restructuring the debt tied to the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway, known commercially as Whoosh, are still ongoing between the Indonesian and Chinese governments.
Speaking after the China-Indonesia Think Tank and Media Forum in South Jakarta on Wednesday, June 24, Wang said communication between both sides remains active and constructive, although details of the negotiations cannot yet be made public.
