TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, that King Charles III shares his stance on preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

Speaking during a state banquet held in honor of the British monarch, Trump referred to ongoing tensions in the Middle East and U.S. operations in the region. As reported by Anadolu, he said his administration was “doing a little Middle East work right now” and that the situation was “going very well.”

Trump also claimed that Iran had been “defeated militarily,” without elaborating, while reiterating his opposition to Tehran’s nuclear ambitions.

We have militarily defeated that particular opponent, and we're never going to let that opponent ever -- Charles agrees with me even more than I do -- we're never going to let that opponent have a nuclear weapon,” he said.

The United States and Israel launched a joint strike on Iran on February 28, which reportedly killed thousands of civilians, including then–Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Tehran responded with retaliatory attacks on U.S. interests across the region, including in several Gulf countries.

A ceasefire was announced on April 8 through mediation by Pakistan, followed by talks in Islamabad on April 11–12. However, the negotiations ended without an agreement.

Trump said the ceasefire had since been extended at Pakistan’s request while awaiting a proposal from Tehran.

At the banquet, Trump also praised King Charles, calling it a “great honor” to host him and Queen Camilla, and congratulated the monarch on his address before Congress.

He got the Democrats to stand — I've never been able to do that. I couldn't believe it! They liked him more than they've ever liked any Republican or Democrat, actually,” Trump said.

He further highlighted what he described as a uniquely strong relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom.

Ours is a treasured friendship, an eternal bond, and a true story of extraordinary heroism and skill...History has known no more powerful force than the combination of American patriotism and British pride,” he said.

King Charles, in his remarks, reflected on the enduring partnership between the two nations. “We have stood together through the best and worst of times,” he said.

He reaffirmed Britain’s commitment to NATO and AUKUS, the trilateral security partnership with the United States and Australia. Charles said he “will never forget that freedom was once again under attack,” referring to Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine.

Today, our partnerships in NATO and AUKUS deepen our cooperation and ensure that together, we meet the challenges of an increasingly complex world,” he said.

The King also referenced a naval vessel with historical ties to wartime cooperation between the two countries, identifying it as a ship from an earlier era launched in 1944 and later associated with joint service with Australian forces in the Pacific.

Its name, he said, was HMS Trump.

In her honor,” the king continued, “tonight, Mr. President, I am delighted to present to you, as a personal gift, the original bell which hung on the conning tower of your valiant namesake. May it stand as a testimony to our nations’ shared history and shining future.”

He also joked about Trump’s past remarks on European history. “YYou recently commented, Mr. President, that if it were not for the United States, European countries would be speaking German. Dare I say that if it wasn't for us, you'd be speaking French,” he said.
