TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – University of Indonesia (UI) said its investigation into a sexual harassment case at its Faculty of Law is ongoing, with several victims already examined by the university’s task force.

Out of 20 reported victims, seven students and six lecturers have been questioned by the Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (Satgas PPK), UI spokesperson Erwin Agustian Panigoro told Tempo on Friday, April 24, 2026.

“The examination records show that seven students and six lecturers have been questioned by the task force and expert team,” Erwin said.

He did not disclose the findings of the examinations, but emphasized that the process is part of efforts to gather comprehensive and in-depth information about the alleged abuse.

Erwin said the victims’ testimonies would play a key role in determining sanctions for the alleged perpetrators.

“The assessment of sanctions is not based solely on what the alleged perpetrators did, but also on the impact experienced by the victims,” he said.

He added that the process requires investigators to examine each reported individual separately, verify digital evidence, and provide victim-centered support.

The task force has also begun summoning 16 suspected perpetrators for questioning, with each individual being examined separately to better understand their roles in the case.

According to Erwin, this individualized approach is one reason the investigation is taking time.

“The handling of these 16 individuals must be done one by one, making the process thorough and serious,” he said.

The investigation is being supported by a specially formed expert team consisting of 10 specialists, including legal experts, clinical and forensic psychologists, digital forensic experts, and gender specialists.

Sanctions for the 16 suspects will later be recommended by the task force and expert team in accordance with relevant regulations issued by Indonesia’s Ministry of Education, as well as UI’s internal policies.

Under these rules, UI aims to complete the investigation within 79 days from the initial report, which was filed on April 17, 2026.

Previously, 16 law students at UI were accused of engaging in sexually explicit discussions about other students in a private group chat. The conversations surfaced on social media platform X through posts by the account @sampahfhui on April 11, 2026.

A lawyer representing the victims, Timotius Rajagukguk, said the case involves 20 female students and seven lecturers. He added that the incidents allegedly took place in 2025, and the victims became aware of the harassment that same year.
