TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The United States (US) marked the 250th anniversary of its independence on Saturday with fireworks, military flyovers, citizenship ceremonies, and celebrations across the country, despite severe weather disrupting events in several states.

President Donald Trump took center stage during the national celebration in Washington, D.C., delivering a speech that combined patriotic themes with political messaging after thunderstorms forced the temporary evacuation of spectators from the National Mall.

Trump's address, originally delayed because of lightning and severe weather, began late Saturday after attendees were allowed to return to the venue.

"I want to thank everybody, because they did the right thing. They saw lightning, and I said, 'There's no way. If we have to speak in front of one person at 4 o'clock in the morning, I'm going to be here. There's no way we can be deterred,'" Trump told the crowd.

Earlier in the day, Trump announced his arrival on his Truth Social platform, posting, "I'M HERE!!!"

The President also described the event beforehand as "the most spectacular TRUMP RALLY of them all," as preparations continued for what organizers said would be a record-breaking fireworks display over the nation's capital.

During his remarks, Trump paid tribute to US veterans while promoting several of his administration's priorities, including the SAVE America Act and continued support for the Second Amendment.

Across the country, Americans celebrated Independence Day with fireworks displays, air shows, parades, and naturalization ceremonies welcoming new US citizens. However, extreme heat and severe thunderstorms forced the evacuation of public gatherings and the cancellation of several outdoor events in parts of the country.

Despite the weather-related disruptions, large crowds continued to participate in commemorative activities as the United States celebrated a milestone anniversary that organizers said reflected both national pride and the country's long and complex history.

The celebration concluded with fireworks illuminating the Washington skyline, capping a day that blended patriotic festivities with reflection on the nation's past and present.
