TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasts local-scale rain, potentially accompanied by lightning and strong winds, to affect parts of Jakarta and several cities in West Java this afternoon through the evening of Monday, May 12, 2025. Air humidity in Jakarta and its surrounding areas on this Vesak Day is predicted to range from 70 to 90 percent.
According to BMKG's 24-hour weather forecast, much of the Greater Jakarta or Jabodetabek area is expected to be heavily overcast starting from Sunday night, May 11. Only certain areas in Bekasi Regency, Bogor Regency, and the Thousand Islands might experience light rain.
Thick overcast conditions are expected to persist until this morning. Some areas within Jakarta may also be partly cloudy from morning until 1:00 PM WIB. BMKG records indicate that air temperatures in Jabodetabek will range from 26 to 31 degrees Celsius throughout the day. The Bogor area is expected to be cooler, with temperatures ranging from 20 to 30 degrees Celsius.
Light to moderate rain is likely to fall across all of Jakarta, except for the Thousand Islands, from Monday afternoon at 1:00 PM WIB until 7:00 PM WIB. This potentially lightning-accompanied rain is also expected to extend to the Jabodetabek areas in West Java, including South Tangerang City, Tangerang Regency, Depok City, Bogor City and Regency, as well as Bekasi City and Regency.
The BMKG team had previously predicted predominantly sunny to overcast conditions across most of Indonesia for the upcoming week. However, current atmospheric dynamics still support convective processes that could lead to heavy rainfall in several regions.
As Jakarta enters the transitional period between seasons, a noticeable difference in air temperature between morning and afternoon is observed due to the strong sunlight from morning until noon. This solar radiation, combined with the presence of water vapor in the atmosphere, can promote the development of strong rain clouds and may trigger localized rainfall from the afternoon into the evening.
