TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tech giant Alibaba is reportedly prohibiting all of its employees from using the Claude Code programming software developed by Anthropic. This internal strict policy is scheduled to take effect on July 10, 2026.
Alibaba's decision was made after the company classified Claude Code as high-risk software with security vulnerabilities. The classification was based on evaluations by developers and independent security researchers who performed a reverse engineering analysis of the Claude Code binary system.
Anthropic, through one of its engineers, Thariq Shihipar, confirmed the existence of the tracking code. However, management argued that the feature was part of an internal experiment that had been ongoing since March 2026.
The experiment was said to prevent the abuse of illegal retailer accounts and protect their AI models from data theft. "The team has landed stronger mitigations since then and we’ve actually been meaning to take this down for a while," said Shihipar, quoted from Tech Crunch on July 4, 2026.
Despite the clarification, Alibaba still prohibits the use of Claude Code internally. Its employees are advised to switch to Qoder, Alibaba's AI-based agentic programming platform.
