TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian U-23 National team coach Indra Sjafri has officially announced the first phase of Young Garuda squad called up for the training camp (TC) in preparation for SEA Games 2025 in Thailand in December. Thirty-two players have been called up.
The majority of the players summoned by the coach from West Sumatra are alumni of the Gerald Vanenburg squad in the 2026 Asia U-23 Cup Qualifiers last month in Sidoarjo. In this squad, only four play overseas, while the rest play in domestic competitions, such as the BRI Super League and Pegadaian Championship.
The four overseas players are Dion Markx (TOP Oss), Tim Geypens (FC Emmen), Ivar Jenner (FC Utrecht), and Adrian Wibowo (Los Angeles FC), who have already been in the Garuda Squad for the trial in Surabaya last month.
Of these 32 names, PSM Makassar contributes the most players to the squad, with five players. These five players include Muhammad Ardiansyah, Muhammad Dzaky Asraf, Ananda Raehan Alief, Victor Dethan, and Ricky Pratama.
The training camp for SEA Games 2025 will last for two weeks and will be held in Jakarta from Thursday, October 2, until Tuesday, October 14. During this training camp, the Indonesian national team will play two friendly matches against India on October 10 and 13.
Later, this number will be reduced to 23 players with two goalkeepers.
Indra Sjafri brought home gold in the previous SEA Games. When introduced as the coach last Monday, he said, "This is a national duty. If I wanted comfort, I would end it as the hero who ended the 32-year wait (for a SEA Games gold medal). But because this is a national duty, as the deputy chair has already stated, whatever the result, I am ready for it."
