TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian U-20 National Team Coach Indra Sjafri will likely use his three-defender formation again in the second match of the 2025 U-20 Asian Cup against Uzbekistan on Sunday, February 16, 2025. The reason is, the four-defender formation implemented against Iran in the first match did not go smoothly.

With a four-defender formation of 4-3-3, Indonesia's game could not develop well against Iran. In the end, they lost 0-3 to the Asian giant team. The three goals from Hesam Nafari, Esmail Gholizadeh, and Mobin Dehghan came from Indonesia's failure to anticipate crosses.

If they lose against Uzbekistan, Indonesia's hopes of qualifying for the quarter-finals will be dashed. Iran's victory over Yemen could also make Indonesia fail to meet its target.

It is not wrong if Indra gambles by returning to his mainstay 3-4-3 formation. This formation was used by Indonesia when they won the 2024 ASEAN Boys U-19 Championship and became the group champion of the 2025 U-20 Asian Cup qualifying round.

Ikram Algiffari is predicted to continue guarding Indonesia's goal. In the last three defenders, Indonesia can play its best formation in Muhamad Alfharezzi Buffon, Kadek Arel Priyatna, and Muhammad Iqbal.

With Buffon as the center back, the right wing back position can be filled by a player who gets quite a lot of playing minutes at PSM Makassar, Mufli Hidayat. Dony Tri Pamungkas will play his best role in the left wing back position. In this formation, Kadek can also play the role of an inverted who can move to the midfield to flow the ball and add to the Garuda Nusantara team's passing options.

Welber Jardim and Toni Firmansyah can fill two positions in the midfield to maintain the team's playing stability. With Arlyansyah Abdulmanan's less than optimal performance in the first match, Indra can bring in Marselinus Ama Ola who played quite well in the second half against Iran.

In the left winger position, Muhammad Ragil can be brought back from the start to help Indonesia's spearhead which will likely still be owned by Jens Raven.

Indonesia's second match against Uzbekistan will be played on Sunday (16/2) at the Youth Football Training Center Stadium, Shenzhen, at 18:30 WIB (Western Indonesian Time).

Here is the predicted line-up for Indonesia U-20 vs Uzbekistan U-20:

Indonesia (3-4-3): Ikram Algiffari; Muhamad Alfharezzi Buffon, Kadek Arel Priyatna, Muhammad Iqbal, Dony Tri Pamungkas, Mufli Hidayat; Welber Jardim, Toni Firmansyah; Marselinus Ama Ola, Jens Raven, Muhammad Ragil.

Coach: Indra Sjafri.
