TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) found a total of 37 bodies in the rubble of the Al Khoziny Islamic boarding school in Buduran, Sidoarjo, East Java. The team aims to clean up the site by Sunday, October 5, 2025.
Basarnas Director of Operations Yudhi Bramantyo stated that the search team had found 26 bodies as of Saturday night, October 4, 2025. He said, "The total number of victims found is 130, consisting of 104 survivors and 26 deceased," on Saturday, October 4, 2025.
In the early hours to this morning, 11 bodies were found in the collapsed building. "As of the latest report, a total of 11 victims have been evacuated on the seventh day," said Yudhi.
Currently, the bodies are being taken directly to the Bhayangkara Hospital in Surabaya for identification. Field personnel will continue to clear the debris to search for bodies buried under the rubble.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Surabaya SAR Office, Nanang Sigit, stated that 60 percent of the building debris has been cleared to open up an evacuation route for the bodies.
They aim to complete the debris clearance today. "We set the target for tomorrow (Sunday). If it extends to Monday, it will be for the clean-up only," Nanang said in his statement on Saturday, October 4, 2025.
He continued that the team had targeted sectors or points where there were suspected to be many victims buried in the rubble. The families are now advised to wait at the post located at the Bhayangkara Hospital of the East Java Regional Police for the identification process.
