TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s national football team defeated Timor-Leste 3-0 in their second Group A match of the 2026 AFF Cup at Chonburi Stadium, Thailand, on Friday, with coach John Herdman’s substitutions proving decisive.
Indonesia had to work hard to secure all three points after being held to a goalless draw by Timor-Leste in the first half.
The Garuda squad gained a numerical advantage from the 21st minute after a Timor-Leste defender was sent off, but Indonesia struggled to break the deadlock until the 74th minute.
Herdman’s Substitutions Change the Game
Indonesia finally opened the scoring through Shayne Pattynama, who converted an assist from Dony Pamungkas. Both players had entered the match as second-half substitutes.
Herdman made several changes after halftime, including replacing Rayhan Hannan with Egy Maulana Vikri in the 46th minute.
Eight minutes later, Sandy Walsh and Shayne Pattynama came on for Wahyu Prasetyo and Brian Fatari.
In the 66th minute, Ragnar Oratmangoen and Dony Pamungkas were introduced, replacing Tim Geypens and Marc Klok.
The changes immediately improved Indonesia’s attacking play, making the team more fluid and dangerous in the final third.
Indonesia Scores Three Goals in 13 Minutes
After Pattynama broke the deadlock in the 74th minute, Indonesia doubled its lead through Thom Haye’s free-kick goal four minutes later.
Just three minutes after that, Indonesia extended the advantage to 3-0 through Mitchell Baker, who finished Ragnar Oratmangoen’s assist.
The goal marked Baker’s fourth strike in the 2026 AFF Cup, making him the tournament’s temporary top scorer.
No further goals were scored as Indonesia secured a comfortable 3-0 victory.
Indonesia Tops Group A Standings
The win moved Indonesia to the top of the Group A standings with six points from two matches.
Indonesia leads second-place Singapore on goal difference, with the Garuda holding a +7 goal difference compared with Singapore’s +3, despite both teams having the same number of points.
Vietnam sits in third place with three points from one match, followed by Cambodia with zero points from two games. Timor-Leste remains at the bottom of the group with zero points from three matches.
