TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Mansyah, Head of Indonesia's Thousand Islands Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Task Force, stated that the situation in the area remains stable, despite a light spread of volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

"We urge residents to remain vigilant, wear masks when outdoors, and follow official information regarding the spread of the volcanic ash," Mansyah said.

According to him, the Thousand Islands BPBD, together with relevant agencies, continues to monitor wind direction and ash dispersion based on data from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG).

"We are also coordinating with local community health centers to prepare for any residents experiencing health issues, such as respiratory problems or eye irritation," Mansyah added.

Additionally, the administration of Pulau Panggang Urban Village, North Thousand Islands District, distributed 300 masks to residents as a precautionary measure against the impact of the volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau.

The masks were distributed at various locations where community activity is concentrated, particularly at the pier and in public areas.

"This activity is part of health mitigation efforts carried out by the urban village administration in collaboration with regional government agencies (SKPD)," said Adehan, Secretary of Pulau Panggang Urban Village.

He noted that the mask distribution aimed to enhance public protection, especially for residents active outdoors.

Authorities are also educating the public on the importance of wearing masks when engaging in outdoor activities.

"We urge residents to maintain environmental cleanliness, including ensuring that water storage containers remain covered and clean to prevent potential ash contamination," Adehan said.
