TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Apple is expanding its initiative for developing digital talents in Indonesia by introducing the Apple Developer Institute in five locations. This step is a continuation of the Apple Developer Academy program that has been running since 2018.
Senior Director of Apple Developer Academy, Gordon Shukwit, stated that this development is driven by the increasing need for specialization in the technology industry. "We see the emergence of specializations relevant to industries such as gaming, IoT, backend, and AI. So, it makes sense to develop the institute in Indonesia," he said during the inauguration in Jakarta on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.
He added, "We also have strong local partners in these fields, so the development can proceed smoothly."
Currently, Apple has five Developer Academies in Indonesia located in Tangerang, Surabaya, Batam, Bali, and Jakarta. The program has produced more than 3,000 alumni, with around 95 percent of them gaining relevant employment. In addition, more than 250 applications have been released in the App Store and 100 startups have emerged from the program.

Seeing these achievements, Apple has introduced the Developer Institute as an advanced stage to deepen expertise in specific fields. There are five main focuses being developed, namely entrepreneurship, game development, AI and machine learning, DevOps, and professional institute. These fields are chosen based on industry trends and labor market needs.
"We see the trends in industry needs and partner demands. There is high demand for DevOps and AI, and students are also interested in gaming," Gordon said.
Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita attended the inauguration of the Apple Developer Institute. He mentioned that the program's presence is part of the commitment agreed upon between the government and Apple. According to him, the technology company from Cupertino, United States, is demonstrating its seriousness by gradually realizing the substance of the points of cooperation as stipulated in the memorandum of understanding (MoU).
One point in the MoU mentions the development of the Apple Academy, Apple Institute, research and development (R&D) activities, and various other initiatives. "In this case, the government appreciates Apple's continued commitment and the opening of trustworthy cooperation opportunities," he said.
In addition to the inauguration, the Minister also had the opportunity to directly observe the area of the Apple Developer Institute. He interacted with the developers who were developing their work, such as DariData, TypeCaster, and Leastric.
5 Apple Developer Institutes
The Apple Developer Institute programs in Surabaya, Tangerang, Batam, and Jakarta offer specialized learning for eight to 24 months. Each program is conducted in partnership with local entities, such as collaboration with Ciputra University for AI and machine learning in Surabaya, S-Quantum Engine for developer operations in Tangerang, Infinite Learning for game development in Batam, and RoketDigital for entrepreneurship program in Jakarta.
In addition, Apple has also introduced the Apple Developer Institute for Professionals in Jakarta in collaboration with BINUS University as a community center for professional developers to network, learn, and innovate.
According to the technology company, the presence of the five Apple Developer Academies and five Apple Developer Institutes in Indonesia forms a comprehensive ecosystem that supports developers at every stage of their careers, while also strengthening Apple's commitment to driving technological innovation within the country.
