TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Arsenal defeated Ipswich Town 4-2 in the third round of the English League Cup at Portman Road Stadium, Ipswich, on Tuesday night (local time).
Arsenal secured the victory with goals from Max Dowman (who scored twice), Noni Madueke, and Mikel Merino, while Ipswich Town managed to pull two goals back through Anis Mehmeti and Chuba Akpom, according to EFL records as cited by Antara.
With this win, Arsenal advances to the fourth round of this season's League Cup; the draw takes place on Wednesday (local time), with matches scheduled for late October.
Arsenal took an early lead in the seventh minute when Max Dowman capped off an individual effort with a goal against Ipswich, making it 1-0.
The Gunners doubled their lead to 2-0 in the 16th minute after Noni Madueke reacted quickly inside the Ipswich penalty area to fire a shot past the home team's goalkeeper.
Arsenal extended their lead early in the second half when an accurate pass from Martin Zubimendi was converted into a goal by Dowman—his second of the match—bringing the score to 3-0 in the 47th minute.
Arsenal added another goal in the 58th minute through a strike by Mikel Merino, putting Mikel Arteta's squad 4-0 ahead.
Ipswich attempted a comeback and managed to narrow the deficit to 1-4 in the 62nd minute via a goal from Anis Mehmeti, who scored after receiving a pass from Jack Clarke.
Towards the end of the match, Ipswich reduced the margin to 2-4 when Chuba Akpom converted a pass from Leif Davis into a goal in stoppage time (90+1 minute).
