TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Nusa Penida Police in Bali arrested an 18-year-old man suspected of stealing cash from a Slovakian tourist at a lodging in Sakti Village, Nusa Penida, Klungkung. The theft occurred on Sunday, October 5, 2025.
The case began after a report from I Wayan Sujana, the owner of the bungalow where the victim, Lukas Baranek, was staying. Sujana reported that his guest's money, 400 euros, or around Rp7.8 million, had gone missing.
"According to the victim's statement, when he left the room, it was in a mess. However, upon returning from the trip, the room was clean and tidy, while the cash had disappeared," said Nusa Penida Police Chief Adjunct Commissioner I Ketut Kesuma Jaya in an official statement on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
Based on the report, the Police Chief instructed the Criminal Investigation Unit to follow up. Police then conducted a crime scene investigation, questioned witnesses, and traced several suspected individuals.
A day later, police arrested the alleged perpetrator, identified by the initials IKAP, at his home in the Banjar Angas area of Klumpu Village, Nusa Penida District.
Upon interrogation, IKAP admitted to stealing Lukas's money. He also handed over the evidence, which consisted of the stolen euros.
"Currently, the perpetrator, along with the evidenc,e has been secured at the Nusa Penida Police Station for further legal proceedings," I Ketut Kesuma Jaya added.
