TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar, Bali, has resumed operations after a 24-hour closure in observance of Nyepi, the Balinese Hindu Day of Silence, airport officials said on Friday, March 20, 2026.
“The I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport resumed operations on Friday, March 20, 2026, at 06:00 AM local time after the observance of Nyepi,” said Gede Eka Sandi Asmadi, head of communications and legal at the airport, as quoted by Antara.
Eka Sandi said the first arriving passengers on Friday morning came on a domestic Citilink flight from Surabaya to Denpasar, flight QG692, which landed at 06:52 AM.
The first international arrival was Hong Kong Airlines flight HX707 from Hong Kong, which landed at 6:58 a.m.
For departures, the first flight to leave the airport was a domestic Citilink service, flight QG691, on the Denpasar–Surabaya route, which departed at 08:10 AM.
The first international departure was Hong Kong Airlines flight HX706 from Denpasar to Hong Kong, which took off at 09:00 AM.
Eka Sandi said airport operations have now returned to normal. He added that the observance of Nyepi at the airport proceeded smoothly, with no flight activity during the closure period.
Amid the ongoing 2026 Lebaran Transportation Post, which runs from March 13 to March 30, 2026, Ngurah Rai Airport was temporarily closed from 06:00 AM on March 19 until 06:00 AM on March 20 local time.
During the closure, airport management recorded the suspension of 440 scheduled commercial flights, comprising 231 domestic and 209 international services. A total of 19 aircraft remained parked overnight at Ngurah Rai International Airport.
