TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that most major cities in Indonesia will experience rain of varying intensity, ranging from light rain to thunderstorms, on Thursday.
BMKG forecaster Alya Sausan, in a weather forecast broadcast on the BMKG YouTube channel in Jakarta on Thursday morning, stated that light rain is predicted for several areas, including Aceh, Medan, Pekanbaru, Padang, Tanjung Pinang, Jambi, Bengkulu, and Palembang.
Light rain is also predicted for Pangkal Pinang, Serang, Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya, Pontianak, Palangkaraya, Banjarmasin, Samarinda, Tanjung Selor, Makassar, Mamuju, Gorontalo, Ternate, Ambon, Sorong, Manokwari, Nabire, and Jayawijaya.
Moderate rain is also expected for Yogyakarta and Kupang.
The BMKG also warned of the potential for rain accompanied by lightning in several areas, namely Lampung and Merauke.
In addition to rain, cloudy to heavily overcast weather is predicted for several areas, including Kendari, Jayapura, Denpasar, Mataram, and Palu. Meanwhile, sunny and cloudy weather is potential for Manado.
"For western Indonesia, be aware of the potential for thunderstorms in Lampung, moderate rain in Yogyakarta, and light rain in several other major cities. Meanwhile, for eastern Indonesia, thunderstorms are potential in Merauke and moderate rain in Kupang," said Alya.
She urged the public to remain vigilant regarding the potential for changing weather, especially in areas prone to thunderstorms.
