TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Draconid meteor shower is slated to peak on Wed, October 8, 2025, with the possibility of a modest “shooting stars” spectacle, marking another magical astronomy phenomenon this month after the Harvest Moon just two days before.
Embracing the fall, the Draconid meteor shower will have its spectacular annual return, bringing bright “fireballs” all scattered across the night sky.
What is the Draconid Meteor Shower?
Every year, the Draconid meteor shower creates its own spell, leaving a cast of dramatic starlight above the Big Dipperasterism in the northwestern sky. This brimming event is forecast to produce about 10 “shooting stars” per hour, with an especially dazzling light that lasts a second or so.
When is the Best Time to Catch the Draconid Meteor Shower?
In 2025, the Harvest Moon precedes the Draconid meteor shower, effectively bleaching the night sky. While the Draconids are highly variable, Live Science argued the brightest fireballs will likely flare dramatically this year.

If you are unsure about the measurement, the width of an adult’s clenched fist is equal to about 10 degrees in the sky when held at arm’s length.
For the Draconid meteor shower, a telescope is not necessarily needed. While some years are dimmer than others, you can still have the chance to watch the Draconid meteor shower.
When is the Next Meteor Shower?
The Orionid meteor shower will make an appearance right after the fading of the Draconid meteors. The next spectacle phenomenon will be most active between October 22 and October 23, 2025, as per the American Meteor Society and Peopledotcom.
How to Photograph the Draconid Meteor Shower?
In order to catch the best photograph of the Draconids and any other meteor showers, a digital camera utilizing a manual mode is essential. Ideally, skywatchers should consider full-frame, APS-C, and Micro Four Thirds types of cameras. Another key equipment is a sturdy tripod, which serves for shake-free shooting.
Shortening your lens’s focal length creates a larger chance of capturing a meteor shower. For a full frame arrangement, lenses in the range of 14mm to 35mm or around 10mm to 50mm for APS-C are the perfect settings when shooting at the lowest f-stop available.
