TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A video circulating on Facebook [archive] and Instagram claims that a young man invaded the pitch and raised a Palestinian flag during a 2026 World Cup match. In the video, security officers surrounding the field are seen running after the man carrying the Palestinian flag on a pole.
But is it true that the man invaded the pitch to raise the Palestinian flag during a 2026 World Cup match?
FACT CHECK
Tempo's Fact Check team verified the aforementioned claim using reverse image search techniques, geolocation tracking, and comparing information with credible sources. The results indicate that someone did raise a Palestinian flag in the middle of the football pitch, but it did not take place during the 2026 World Cup.
The man's action took place at the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) when Persija played against Semen Padang in the Super League match on May 23, 2026.

An identical video was found in a post by the Instagram account ultra.antifa. Meanwhile, similar videos from different perspectives were found in posts by pemudatabligh.id, rumahzakatkalbar, and Hendi Ismail's YouTube channel.
According to the caption of the post, the Palestinian flag-raising took place after the Persija vs. Semen Padang Super League match at JIS on May 23, 2026.
Tempo also tracked the building elements captured in the video. The clip shows orange bleachers, which are identical to the seating at the JIS stadium. Furthermore, the stadium's architectural structure in the video, particularly the position of the LED screens, also bears a striking resemblance to the JIS building.

CONCLUSION
Tempo's verification results conclude that the video of a young man invading the pitch to raise the Palestinian flag during the 2026 World Cup is partially true.
