TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police deploys 5,641 personnel to secure the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup football tournament. The first official FIFA tournament in Southeast Asia will be held in Jakarta and Bandung from September 25 to October 5, 2026.
To support the tournament, the Indonesian Police will run the Garuda Bhakti 2026 operation for 16 days, from September 21 to October 6, 2026.
"(We) are deploying 5,641 personnel, consisting of 102 leadership and staff personnel, 3,834 personnel within the Jakarta Metro Police, and 1,705 personnel within the West Java Regional Police," said Inspector General Laksana, Deputy Assistant to the Chief of Police for Operations, while leading a roll call on Monday, September 21, 2026.
The FIFA ASEAN Cup tournament will be held at two venues: the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Central Jakarta and the Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung Regency, West Java.
Laksana stated that security will not be limited to the stadium. Police personnel will also guard other locations and routes, such as arrival points, training locations, team movement routes, fan concentration points, parking areas, vital objects, and other areas considered prone to disturbances.
Based on police mapping, several key vulnerabilities need to be addressed during the match. "Especially the situation inside and around the stadium. There is the potential for crowd congestion, dynamics between supporters, the use of inappropriate attributes, and compliance with ticket and baggage regulations," Laksana said.
In addition to the stadium's vulnerabilities, Laksana warned that the high mobility of the crowd and supporters could trigger traffic congestion. Police anticipate various risks related to the security of personal belongings and vehicles, as well as maintaining order during the match ticket sales process.
"Implement situational traffic diversion, prepare alternative routes and parking areas, and conduct early detection and organize supporter groups to control crowd movement from arrival to departure," Laksana told personnel during the roll call.
Furthermore, he said, the police also need to anticipate vulnerabilities in the digital space. "These include the spread of hoaxes, incitement, hate speech, and calls for mass mobilization," he said.
Citing the FIFA website, the inaugural edition of the FIFA ASEAN Cup will take place in China and Indonesia during the September/October period of the Men's International Match Calendar. Division 1, featuring Indonesia, Bangladesh, Malaysia, and Singapore (Group A), and Vietnam, Pakistan, Thailand, and the Philippines (Group B), will be held in Jakarta and Bandung, Indonesia.
Meanwhile, Hong Kong will host the participating countries in Division 2, which will join Laos and Brunei Darussalam in Group A. Cambodia, Myanmar, and Timor-Leste will compete in Group B.
