TEMPO.CO, Jakarta FIFA has imposed sanctions on Argentina players and officials following the commotion after the 2026 World Cup final against Spain last July.

As reported in an official release on Friday, citing ANTARA, FIFA imposed playing bans and fines on Leandro Paredes, Nahuel Molina, Thiago Almada, and Pablo Martin Paez Gavira.

Paredes received a 10-match ban and a US$90,000 fine. Molina received a seven-match ban and a US$90,000 fine. Almada and Gavira each received a one-match ban and a US$30,000 fine. Meanwhile, Argentina's assistant coach Roberto Ayala was also banned from accompanying the team and fined US$30,000 by FIFA.

In accordance with Article 69 paragraph 2 letter a) and paragraph 3 of the FDC (FIFA Disciplinary Code), the sanction of a match ban applies to subsequent matches played by the representative team concerned.

FIFA also fined the Argentine Football Association (AFA) US$321,000 for violating several articles during the 2026 World Cup. AFA was found guilty of violating Article 13 paragraph 2 c) (Use of sporting events for non-sporting demonstrations), Article 14 paragraph 5 (Violation of team discipline).

Furthermore, the AFA was found to have violated Article 15 of the FDC on discrimination and racist abuse, relating to discriminatory chants and gestures by supporters, as well as Article 17 on match order and security. As a result, the AFA was ordered to play its next two home matches with spectator capacity limited to 50 percent.

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee ruled that US$10,000 of the total US$321,000 fine should be invested in a plan to combat discrimination. The Committee also ruled that part of the sanction, a one-match ban and a US$100,000 fine, should be suspended with a probationary period in effect.

Furthermore, the parties were informed today of the provisions of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee's decision and were given ten days to submit a request for the decision, along with legal reasoning.
