TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A fire broke out at the Pertamina Refinery Unit (RU) Dumai in Riau Province, Indonesia, on Wednesday night, October 1, 2025.

Agustiawan, Dumai RU Area Manager of Communication, Relations, and Corporate Social Responsibility, stated that the company’s internal firefighting team is currently handling the incident.

According to him, the team is working swiftly to extinguish the fire and isolate the location to prevent it from spreading to other areas. He added that the cause of the fire is still unknown, as Pertamina’s team is focusing on field handling efforts. It is also unclear whether the fire has caused any casualties.

“We apologize for the disruption to the community’s comfort. We ask for the public’s prayers so that we can handle this incident properly,” Agustiawan said in a written statement.

This is not the first fire at the Dumai Refinery. On April 1, 2023, at 22:40 local time, the refinery experienced an explosion that injured nine workers in the control room due to glass shrapnel.

According to Pertamina’s official website, the RU Dumai refinery produces both oil fuel (BBM) and non-oil fuel products, derived from the Putri Tujuh Dumai – Sungai Pakning refinery.

The Pertamina RU Dumai refinery has been in operation since 1971. Pertamina noted that since then, the Putri Tujuh Dumai and Sungai Pakning refineries have contributed to the development of the region, particularly in Dumai and its surrounding areas, while also making a significant contribution to national fuel supply.

Dumai Refinery is Indonesia’s third-largest oil refinery, with a complexity level of NCI 7.5 and a total capacity of 170,000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD).

Products produced at the Dumai Refinery include aviation turbine fuel, fuel oil, diesel oil, kerosene, as well as non-oil fuel products such as solvents, green coke, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
