
TEMPO.CO, Bandung - Floods and landslides struck five areas across West Java following moderate to heavy rainfall on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. The disasters occurred mainly from the afternoon to the evening in Bogor, West Bandung, Bandung, and Tasikmalaya.
In Bogor City and Regency, rain from noon until evening caused flooding on Pangeran Ashogiri Street, North Bogor District, and in residential areas in Kampung Keramat. The evening floods led to severe traffic congestion and inundated several homes.
According to the West Java Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), a landslide occurred in RW 04, Kampung Ciburial, Cibogo Village, Lembang District, West Bandung Regency. Seven residents suffered minor injuries, while one person was seriously injured and taken to the hospital.
Flooding also hit Jalan Raya Lembang in Lembang District from afternoon to evening, disrupting traffic and affecting homes in the area.
In Bandung Regency, floods were reported in Citeureup Village, Dayeuhkolot District, around 09:00 PM WIB. The Head of BPBD, Uka Suska Puji Utama, said the flooding was caused by the overflowing of the Cikapundung Kolot, Cigede, and Cipalasari Rivers.
The water level ranged from 20 to 90 centimeters, affecting 1,744 families. While some residents evacuated, they have since returned home.
In Tasikmalaya Regency, flooding and landslides were also reported on the Mangunreja–Sukaraja Highway in Cibeureum Village, Tanjungjaya Subdistrict. The road was temporarily closed due to the incident.
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that convective cloud formation began in the Bogor area at 01:40 PM WIB, maturing by 02:04 PM WIB and expanding eastward before dissipating around 05:45 PM WIB.
Cloud growth was also detected near the Subang, West Bandung border at 12:05 PM WIB, with additional cloud activity in Bandung and southern areas starting at 12:45 PM WIB.
These merged into a large system moving north before dissipating at 02:55 PM WIB, indicating moderate to heavy rain in Bandung and West Bandung that afternoon.
In southern Tasikmalaya, clouds formed around 02:10 PM WIB, intensified between 02:20–03:10 PM WIB, and dissipated by 04:00 PM WIB, signaling heavy rain during that period.
Earlier, the West Java Climatology Station had issued a weather alert for the second half of May (May 11–20, 2025), warning of high rainfall potential. Areas placed under alert status included Bogor, Sukabumi, Cianjur, and Garut, while Bandung, West Bandung, Bogor, Subang, and Tasikmalaya were listed under caution.
