TEMPO.CO, JakartaAirline company PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk visited the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Wednesday, October 1, 2025. Garuda's top management requested KPK's supervision in the procurement of Boeing aircraft worth US$3.2 billion or Rp51.2 trillion (at an exchange rate of Rp16,000). The GIAA-coded issuer wants to ensure a clean purchasing process.

Garuda Indonesia's VP Corporate Secretary, Cahyadi Indrananto, hopes that the meeting with the KPK could mitigate the risk of corruption in the procurement of Boeing, in line with the agreement between President Prabowo Subianto and Donald Trump. "We are grateful that the KPK is supportive of this and willing to assist Garuda Indonesia in accordance with the KPK's main task, particularly in the prevention and supervision field," he said when contacted on Thursday, October 2, 2025. Cahyadi added that Garuda hopes for the participation of many institutions in supervising this procurement.

In the meeting, Garuda's President Director, Wamildan Tsani, presented the procurement plan to the Chair of the KPK, Setyo Budiyanto. Setyo emphasized that the procurement totaling Rp51.2 trillion must be transparent, accountable, and free from conflicts of interest. "We have to ensure that past mistakes are not repeated. Such a large-scale procurement must be transparent," he said in a written statement.

Previously, U.S. President Donald Trump announced Indonesia's commitment to purchase 50 Boeing aircraft, mostly of the Boeing 777 type. Trump said the agreement was reached following direct discussions with President Prabowo Subianto. "Indonesia has committed to purchasing $15 Billion Dollars in US Energy, $4.5 Billion Dollars in American Agricultural Products, and 50 Boeing Jets, many of them 777’s," Trump said in a post on Truth Social on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, U.S. time.

On a separate occasion, President Prabowo explained the reasons for purchasing the Boeing fleet. He said that the U.S. aircraft would strengthen Garuda Indonesia. "So, Garuda must be a symbol of Indonesia. We are determined, I am determined to elevate Garuda," Prabowo said upon returning from a working visit to several countries at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta, on Wednesday, July 16, 2025.

Prabowo believes that Garuda needs a new fleet to meet its operational needs. He mentioned that Boeing is a well-known manufacturer of quality commercial aircraft. "And I think there is no problem, because we need them, and they want to sell. Boeing planes are also quite good," he said.
