TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Global Sumud Flotilla firmly denies the accusation by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs that the humanitarian convoy was funded by Hamas. In a statement released to the Ansa news agency and quoted from Euronews, Global Sumud Flotilla spokesperson Maria Elena Delia called Israel's claim propaganda.
"The papers shown by Israel prove neither Hamas' financing nor control over the Global Sumud Flotilla," she said.
"We are a civil and humanitarian mission, in the eyes of Europe and the world. We ask that the papers be handed over in full to independent bodies: until that happens, [this claim] is just propaganda, not evidence," said Delia.
On Tuesday, September 30, 2025, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs released two documents on its X account. The documents were claimed to prove the direct involvement of Hamas in the funding and execution of the Sumud Flotilla.
Israel Claims to Have Found Hamas Documents on Global Sumud Flotilla
The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the documents were found in the Gaza Strip and revealed for the first time. The first document is a 2021 letter signed by Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. The letter revealed the close relationship between Hamas and the People's Conference for Palestinians Abroad, or PCPA organization.
The PCPA was established in Turkey in 2017 by Palestinian diaspora from around the world to engage in political participation and national decision-making. It regularly issues statements on the current situation in Gaza and the West Bank, as well as other issues related to Palestine.
The PCPA was designated as an organization established by Hamas by the Israeli Ministry of Defense in August 2021. Israel regards it as a representative of the Hamas organization.
The second document lists PCPA members operating mainly in Europe, including Saif Abu Kashk, alleged to be the CEO of Cyber Neptune. Israel accuses Cyber Neptune of being a private Spanish maritime company with dozens of ships participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla.
According to official records from Spain, a person named Saif Abdelrahim Abukeshek is listed as the CEO of Cyber Neptune, an association based in Barcelona. According to public records, the company changed its corporate purpose from real estate to maritime transportation for people and goods, with Abukeshek taking over control just a few days before the departure of the Global Sumud Flotilla on August 31.
Abukeshek has repeatedly denied the Israeli government's allegations of his involvement with Hamas. "My work with Cyber Neptune and the flotilla has been fully transparent and focused solely on delivering life-saving aid to Gaza’s besieged population," he said via social media.
Israel Captures Global Sumud Flotilla Activists
Before reaching Gaza, Israel had detained several activists sailing with the flotilla. The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a post on X on Wednesday that "several ships" from the flotilla were intercepted and their passengers were transferred to port.
As reported by Al Jazeera, the ministry also shared a video showing Swedish activist Greta Thunberg and her companions aboard the Alma in good health and safety. So far, at least six ships have been intercepted by the Israeli navy, according to the activist group. These ships are Deir Yassin/Mali, Huga, Spectre, Adara, Alma, and Sirius.
All passengers on board have not been injured. Before being intercepted, the ships had managed to sail past the point where the Madleen Flotilla was intercepted by Israeli forces earlier this year.
