TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi affirmed that the policy to cap commissions for online motorcycle taxi or online ojek services at a maximum of 8 percent will come into effect on July 1, 2026.
Dudy stated that President Prabowo Subianto had announced the policy adjustment for ride-hailing commissions on May 1, 2026, as part of efforts to improve the welfare of drivers.
"No, it is not a trial. It will be directly enforced on July 1, and we will monitor the reactions later," the Minister confirmed in Jakarta on Saturday, June 27, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
He explained that the government had conveyed the policy to all application providers, urging them to prepare implementation steps so that the new provisions could be applied on time.
According to Dudy, a meeting between the application providers and the House of Representatives (DPR) leadership concluded with an agreement that the enforcement of the maximum 8 percent commission would officially begin on July 1.
The Ministry of Transportation, Dudy added, fully supports the implementation of this policy by preparing all administrative and technical aspects in accordance with government regulations.
He assessed that the application providers had expressed their commitment to support the government's policies during several recent meetings with the DPR and the Ministry of Transportation.
Dudy ensured that the Director General of Land Transportation, Aan Suhanan, had held several discussions with the operators to confirm that all companies were ready to implement the President's policy.
According to Dudy, the commission adjustment does not require new derivative regulations because the provisions regarding commission amounts are already regulated under the Minister of Transportation's Decision Number KP 1001 Year 2022 concerning Guidelines for the Calculation of Costs for the Use of Motorcycles Used for Community Purposes Using Applications.
He explained that the Ministry of Transportation will simply revise the provision regarding the maximum commission limit, lowering it from the previous 20 percent to a maximum of 8 percent, in accordance with President Prabowo Subianto's directive.
"So, for the 8 percent commission, we will revise the provision that was originally set at a maximum of 20 percent. It was 15 plus 5, right? We will revise it to a maximum of 8 percent," he clarified.
In addition to revising the commission amount, the Ministry of Transportation will also update provisions regarding insurance as part of the regulatory refinements under the ministry's authority.
Dudy stressed that all changes only cover regulations previously governed by the Ministry of Transportation, meaning adjustments are being made following the President's directive conveyed on May 1.
Although the revised regulations have not been officially issued, Dudy emphasized that the application providers had expressed readiness to support the government's policy after weighing various dynamics to meet the expectations of drivers, especially those on two-wheeled vehicles.
"In terms of commitment, the operators have expressed their readiness, naturally considering the dynamics from one side or another," he said. "They are ready to support what the President hopes for, as well as the expectations of our fellow online motorcycle drivers, especially those using two-wheeled vehicles."
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has signed Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 27 of 2026 to reduce the portion of income taken by application companies from online taxi drivers to 8 percent.
"I say here, I do not agree with 10 percent; it must be below 10 percent," President Prabowo said in his speech at the International Labor Day commemoration at the National Monument, Jakarta, on Friday, May 1, 2026.
The President affirmed that the policy was enacted to defend the rights of online motorcycle taxi drivers who work hard every day and risk their lives on the roads. According to Prabowo, the existing profit-sharing scheme has failed to provide justice for the drivers.
